WALTHAM - JUNE 20, 2011 The Artists of GWArc Gallery Art Show opening reception was held on Monday, June 20 at Greater Waltham Arc, with artist instructor Pablo Friedmann in attendance. The display of paintings, which begins in GWArc's lobby and continues up a main staircase into a 2nd floor conference room, showcases the work of GWArc consumers, who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. Artist-in-residence Pablo Friedmann focused on the themes of Self, Family, Sun and Flowers during a series of art classes he taught at GWArc during the winter and spring. The art show is the culmination of these classes."Arts programming is so important to our consumers, and we are thrilled that we were able to continue our Artists of GWArc programming through Art with Pablo", said Roslynn Rubin, GWArc CEO. "Our consumers looked forward every week to working with Pablo to create art. This series continued the arts programming we have offered for several years in drawing, paintng, sculpture, dance and drumming."
Entitled "Expression Through Drawing and Painting", the art program was made possible through a grant from the Waltham Cultural Council. Pablo taught a series of 10 one-hour classes at each of GWArc's two sites, 56 Chestnut Street and 31 Woodland Road. GWArc plans to produce a 2012 Artists of GWArc calendar using the art work.
The Artists of GWArc Gallery Art Show continues daily 3-4:30 pm through Thursday, June 23, and can also be seen by appointment (call 781-899-1344).
This program is supported in part by a grant from the Waltham Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

GWArc is a 55 year old agency that provides services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the greater Waltham area.
